Concord work day – Volunteers needed!

AMBC Trail Work Day at Concord Park in Farragut

Saturday July 31   (8:00 – Noon)
 Lunch will be provided at Noon.

  • Volunteers: will work hard and smart. Knox County is providing 6 men equipped with power tools and sprayers. The biking community supplies up to 30 volunteers. West Bicycles in Farragut will provide lunch. Sign-in and lunch under the shade trees across the parking lot from the east loop trail entrance near the golf course. No previous experience or training is necessary to volunteer.
  • Objective: Brush cut, Clear and Spray  trails making them ride ready till spring and develop Concord Park into a year round Mountain Bike Park.

AMBC Poker Ride

The 2nd annual AMBC Poker Ride is coming up fast!

Thanks to Thomas’s hard work, and the generosity of some amazing sponsors and local bike shops, this is gonna be another killer event.

The Details:

  • 2nd Annual Spring Poker Ride— A Game of Poker played by Bike on the Knoxville Greenways
  • 6 Check Points, Best Hand Wins
  • Time: Ride begins at Noon – Must complete ride by 5pm
  • Party at Earth Fare from 3pm to 6pm with Burgers and Hot Dogs, etc.
  • Location: Starts at Earth Fare: 140 N. Forest Park Blvd., Knoxville 37919
  • Admission: Free

Subaru IMBA Trail Care Crew Visit!

Thanks to on-going sponsorship from Subaru of America, the Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew program is crankin’ again in 2010. Two teams of trail experts will travel year-round throughout North America and beyond, leading trailwork sessions, meeting with land managers, and working with IMBA-affiliated clubs and members to improve mountain biking opportunities.

The International Mountain Bicycling Association is coming to Tennessee. Chris and Leslie Kehmeier of the Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew will be in Knoxville for a Trailbuilding School. The Crews teach “sustainable” trail building, which means building trails that last a long time and require minimal maintenance. This helps reduce trail damage, protects the environment, and enhances visitor enjoyment.

Urban Wilderness Challenge set for March

Come out Saturday, March 20 to support the Legacy Parks Foundation by participating or volunteering in the Urban Wilderness Challenge!

“Outdoor enthusiasts will have a chance to explore some of Knoxville’s parks, greenways, wilderness and special places that comprise a part of the Urban Wilderness and Historic Corridor. The Urban Wilderness Challenge will provide three unique activities for adventurers of all levels to play in the recreational, historic and natural assets found along Knoxville’s south waterfront. The event benefits Legacy Parks Foundation and is sponsored by River Sports, Patagonia, Knoxville Volunteer Rotary, Knoxvillager.com, Barley’s, Dewhirst Properties and Appalachian Mountain Bike Club.”

Big South Fork Epic Weekend

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

AMBC will have a weekend-long camping/riding/trail work trip at Big South Fork on June 4-6. Come up Friday for an evening Grand Gap group ride and camp out. Saturday morning we’ll get up and spend a couple of hours doing trail maintenance; after lunch we’ll spend the rest of the day RIDING! More group rides will happen Sunday.

There will be groups for all levels of riders — nobody will miss out on a chance to ride some of East TN’s best trails.

We’ll post more information and updates here as the weekend draws nearer.
