December meeting canceled

Saturday, December 24th, 2011

Hey everybody, since we expect a lot of people to be out of town and/or entertaining visiting family and/or friends and/or hangovers, we’re canceling this month’s AMBC meeting. Happy holidays to everyone—see you in 2012!

Mega Workday recap

Saturday, December 24th, 2011

HUGE thanks to all who came out to the AMBC Mega Workday!

We had 146 people sign in for a total of 700.5 hours of labor. Even at minimum wage, that is a contribution to our community of more than $5,000 in one day!

Special thanks to our friends from Bikes n Beers, who not only dug in with the trail building, but also helped shoot ton of photos and video throughout the workday. Check out their site for the video.

We’ve got big plans for 2012—keep watching the calendarfor more workdays and events.

Mega Workday Details

Wednesday, December 7th, 2011

Wow! We’ve had an incredible community response to the MEGA WORKDAY happening on Dec 17th. We can’t wait to see all the new faces and old friends who’ve committed to come out and work in the dirt on Knoxville’s newest trail network.

Everyone should bring work gloves and water, and any tools specified below for the team you’ll be working on. Here are the full details:

When/Where

Bonus!

  • River Sports is giving away 100 $25 gift Cards.
  • Ijams is Giving away Free individual memberships for ALL Workers.  A family membership can be upgraded for the cost of the difference
  • Lunch is at the “hub” on Imery’s Trail (intersection with the Keyhole trail)

There will be several crews:

Material Movers

  • We will be surfacing the new flow trail to make it rideable year round. We will have two machines to load wheelbarrows but we need people hauling with wheelbarrows.
  • What you can bring: a wheelbarrow, shovel and a hard garden rake
  • We need: about 20 people

Planters

  • Sunlight Gardens and Overhill Nurseries have donated A LOT of native plant material. We’ll be putting it in the ground.
  • What you can bring: a garden spade, loppers, rakes, etc.

Trail Diggers

  • We will be working on a new section of trail. The club has digging tools and loppers enough for 30 people

Bridge Builders

  • We need people to haul lumber (mules) and people to build the bridge with Randy Farmer

WHAT WE DON’T NEED

NO CHAINSAWS, PLEASE.  The club has a couple of chainsaw-certified people who will do any chainsawing that is necessary. We appreciate the offers of chainsaws, but we’ll definitely find other work for you.

AMBC MEGA Workday

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

The last AMBC trail workday of 2011 is coming up on December 17th and we want to make it our biggest one yet! We’re hoping to see at least 100 people turn out to help finish the new trails we’ve been building in South Knoxville.

Since this is a MEGAworkday, we’ll have two different shifts, so you’ll have the option to work from 9-noon or 1-4pm. Lunch will be provided at noon. All shifts meet at the Mead’s Quarry parking lot - rain or shine!

AMBC will provide some tools, but if you have your own (rogue hoes, fire rakes, mattocks, loppers, chainsaws), please bring them so that we can be sure everyone has something to work with.

EVERYONE’S WELCOME! Bring your friends and family and show them what great outdoor resources are right in their back yard.

If you plan to attend, just leave a comment below to help us get a head count. See you on the 17th!
